Sakura Kimono Process Work by Kaze-Hime Sakura Kimono Process Work by Kaze-Hime
Not really a tutorial, just a collection of photos of process work for a Copic commission I recently drew.
The last three pictures are just space filler. I will make a proper one eventually *V*;;;

It's a postcard-sized drawing (4x6" ish) so squishing all the details in and being neat was quite a challenge, but this was fun.

---
Tool list:
- Bienfang poster paper (I do not recommend it though, it was just all I had).
- Copic originals, ciaos, and sketch mix. Mostly originals. About 20-30 colours were used in this drawing.
- Sakura black and brown 3.0 fine liners.

Funny thing, I thought I had read "Sakura Kinomoto", and then I got a little upset when I realised it wasn't actually CCS fanart, LOL. Too much nostalgia lately.
But this postcard is so very cute anyways *-*

What kind of paper would you recommend for copics? My sis likes using cardstock but I heard some people don't like it because it dries out the markers faster.

And as always, beautiful artwork!

Usually a thick paper like bristol is preferable (that's just my preference though) because it allows smoother lines when inking the initial sketch. Bristol paper usually comes in sketchpads (usually 9 x 12 inch sized pads) and most art stores have them on stock. (Papers with a rough surface should be avoided if you want the inked work to come out smooth as possible.)  Copic markers bleed through printer paper very easily and I avoid using it like the plague.

That is so cool to see how you put it together. If i could draw and color better you'd have just inspired me to give it a try myself. Excellent work.

Wow, how do you keep the areas so smooth looking on so large a piece? I always hve that slight 'shadow-line' (where the coloring overlaps) when I do larger areas. What is your secret??

I love it, it's so preety! =^-^=
I use bristol/kent papers and markers too when I design my characters, but I've never had the time (or enough ink ^^; ) to draw full pictures like this. I recently bought copic refills, tho, so I can now do more! ^_~
I also like to paint with acrylic inks on bristol paper, it comes out really cool ^^

Very lovely. It's refreshing to see that I'm not the only one who favors traditional media. (Obviously I'm not, that sounds pompous as hell, but I mean... lol, I stil enjoyed seeing this, haha. Thanks.)
