Selenite by Kaze-Hime Selenite by Kaze-Hime
:heart:Happy Valentines!
Especially to my beloved, Karu.
:iconchihan:

Inspired by Rurutia's "Selenite" song.
(lyrics from Kiwi-Musume)

Ah, a light flickers in the ruined city
And an invisible tune, full of wishes, echoes around

Now, the burned-down sky sinks to the bottom of the water
And is filled with moonlight

Dyed in the blue burning night
Your shoulders are so slender they’re almost not there
I hang on tight to them but still you fade away

Ah, at the end of the universe I found countless little stars
When we met, I learned what dizziness felt like

Now, swallowed up in endless waves of gold and silver
We move towards the sacred river

My heart begins to tremble as you pull me close so sweetly
Forever, always and forever, I want to hold you
So that you won't disappear

Now, swallowed up in endless waves of gold and silver
We move towards the sacred river

Dyed in the blue burning night
Your shoulders are so slender they’re almost not there
I hang on tight to them but still you fade away

My heart begins to tremble as you pull me close so sweetly
Forever, always and forever, I want to hold you
So that you won't disappear

;A; This is.... so beautiful~ I can really feel the emotions you wanted to portray (and the fact that I took your advice to listen to Selenite isn't hurting the image, either). It's really pulling at my heartstrings...

One of the things I try to get myself to do when I have the time is to put down a review for at least one of the pieces of artwork from artists whose works I add to my favorites. By "review", of course, I don't mean spare comments like "good job" or "great picture". What makes the endeavor difficult, of course, is that it's hard to put forth a lot of substantial comments for something that is quite honestly very good, far better than anything I can ever hope to achieve. Regardless, let's see if I can try.

First off, the major reasons why I chose this particular piece of work to review: It's yuri (or, at least, I hope it is). And, frankly, it's very beautiful yuri. Immediate strong points I can think right off my head is expressions and hands; both of their faces display expressions highlighting anxiety, yearning, and vulnerability, while their hands are very well-drawn in ways with tense, clasping fingers that look like they're grasping for each other, something that fits your theme of desperation very well. It's very beautiful, and helps symbolize the kind of emotional intensity that represents a lot of the best things that I adore about yuri.

Now, if I have to start nitpicking, I'm going to have to go with coloring here, or - more precisely - color representation. There is a "blur" to your colors that works both ways. On one hand, the low saturation to your colors gives it a good "crystal" quality, as if the image itself is being seen through cold crystal, in symmetry with your theme of "selenite". This helps create (or perhaps mask) flaws that can be overlooked and forgiven, such as unclear, inconsistent, and undetermined shading, particularly in the area of the clothes; again, though, no biggie. The area where this flaw stands out the most, however, is at where I think the bunny ears and cat ears are supposed to be. And when I use terms like "where I think...are supposed to be", that is the problem: There is a lack of clarity and saturation to the coloring and shading of that area to allow me to conclusively determine precisely what those whte and pink strips are. (Don't take these pointers too harshly, though; I recognize that I'm reviewing something that was done four years ago, and looking at your works today, I can say with confidence that you've come quite the ways. I just needed something to review and not sound like it's gratuitous.)

In any case, this is a very beautiful picture that looks like it'll be staying in my favorites for quite a while. Thank you for sharing this work with us, and I hope your sail catches more winds.
